As restaurants, pubs and the night-time economy reopen after the pandemic, it is really important that everyone who uses and enjoys Haringey’s vibrant nightlife, and those who simply commute from/to work at night, feel safe.

Whilst we know that most people who use our town centres in the evening and at night do so safely, there is a concern that women and girls may face a greater risk of harm.

What is this survey about?

We are looking to better understand the experience of women and girls in Haringey about their experiences after dark in the borough.

The findings will be used to understand the nature of the problem in Haringey, and to inform a bid to the Home Office’s Safety of Women at Night Fund, which if successful, will be used to support local interventions focused on preventing violence against women and girls in public spaces at night.

Mayor of London’s Women’s Night Safety Charter (WNSC)

Wood Green Business Improvement District has signed the Mayor of London’s Women’s Night Safety Charter (WNSC) which includes:

  • Nominate a champion in your organisation who actively promotes women’s night safety
  • Demonstrate to staff and customers that your organisation takes women’s safety at night seriously, for example through a communications campaign
  • Remind customers and staff that London is safe, but tell them what to do if they experience harassment when working, going out or travelling
  • Encourage reporting by victims and bystanders as part of your communications campaign
  • Train staff to ensure that all women who report are believed
  • Train staff to ensure that all reports are recorded and responded to
  • Design your public spaces and work places to make them safer for women at night

If you are a woman, are you able to take 5-10 minutes to complete this survey about safety after dark in Haringey?

We will also ask about any experiences that may have harmed you or made you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, including experiences of sexual violence, abuse or harassment.

We want to assure you that your responses to this survey are completely anonymous and cannot be traced back to you. No personally identifiable information is captured unless you voluntarily offer personal or contact information in any of the open text questions. We welcome and encourage you to be as open as you feel comfortable, and you can end the survey at any time.
