Wood Green Business Improvement District (BID) have been awarded funding through the Mayor of London’s Greener City Fund Community Grant Scheme to transform the front of the Library area on the High Road. Working in Partnership with the Council, the BID submitted an application for additional funding to look at creating a space which can be utilised to improve the look of the area while supporting community activities.
The BID was keen after feedback from both businesses and the general public to look to improve the area of derelict planters outside the Library to create a new community garden over which the community feels a sense of ownership. The project will incorporate a community gardening and volunteering opportunities through a new “Community Garden Group“. Working in partnership with local social Enterprise “Grow N22”, the project will deliver increased access to green space, seating and a platform space for community use.

The Green City Fund Community Grant Scheme is funded by the Mayor of London. The Wood Green Library Project application was submitted by Future Wood Green Business Improvement District (BID) and in November 2018, an assessment panel met and along with other projects, was successful. The project is part of the Mayor of London’s commitment to be the first National Park City, with a target of making more than half of the city’s area green by 2050. To help do this, he created the Greener City Fund in summer 2017. In spring 2018, this fund was increased to £12 million. GrowN22 exists to transform unlikely, disused and neglected spaces across Haringey into vibrant community gardens and growing spaces made for and by local people. Established in 2017 by Hugh Chapman and Luke Newcombe whom share a passion for nature and green spaces with the aim is to transform Wood Green into a lush green urban paradise through creating community gardens and adding green infrastructure in the public realm. #GrowN22 project manages the Westbury Banks Nature Reserve, a community food growing garden at St Mungo’s WestGreen Road, New Southgate Station and transformed a car park into a thriving green space for the Green Rooms Hotel and the Wood Green Mile. Future Wood Green Business Improvement District (BID) was founded in July 2018 after successfully being voted by businesses to deliver a five year plan of improvements and other projects within the Wood Green High Road Area. The Wood Green Library Project is part of the Place and Connectivity Theme which also includes improvements to the cleanliness of the public spaces, better signage and micro-greening, Shop Front improvement program and Shop window dressing support.
