Wood Green Business Improvement District (BID) have been awarded funding through the Mayor of London’s Greener City Fund Community Grant Scheme to transform the front of the Library area on the High Road. Working in Partnership with the Council, the BID submitted an application for additional funding to look at creating a space which can be utilised to improve the look of the area while supporting community activities.

The BID was keen after feedback from both businesses and the general public to look to improve the area of derelict planters outside the Library to create a new community garden over which the community feels a sense of ownership. The project will incorporate a community gardening and volunteering opportunities through a new “Community Garden Group“. Working in partnership with local social Enterprise “Grow N22”, the project will deliver increased access to green space, seating and a platform space for community use.

The project which will be delivered in May/June 2019 but the BID is keen to here from anyone from all ages who would like to be involved. For further information, please visit our website at https://woodgreenbid.co.uk/themes/place-and-connectivity/wood-green-library-garden/

Cllr Charles Adje Cabinet Member for Strategic Regeneration, Haringey Council

“High Streets are the heart and soul of our community and as a council we want to ensure that our High Streets remain a vibrant and bustling part of community life. We are delighted that the Wood Green BID were successfully awarded a grant to green Wood Green High Road. Residents, shoppers and businesses will really benefit from these positive changes.”

Paul Collins, Wood Green BID Manager adds

“Since last summer, many have fed back that the area around the library lets down the surrounding area. Delivering a fantastic project as part of our Place and Connectivity theme during 2019 will help support the other projects we have planned to brighten up the area of the High Road. It is great news that the GLA Green City Fund has awarded the funding as this will help transform a space but also activate a project for which the community can help design, create and have ownership”
