Terry, the Store Manager at Savers Wood Green writes
I am constantly working hard to achieve excellent store standards, a long with my amazing team. We aim to have exemplary customer standards, a friendly work environment and a well presented shop.
We try our best to keep our shrinkage low and team morale high. Wood Green is a particularly challenging area, in terms of customers and the level of crime and anti-social behaviour we have to contend with. Our team of 32 staff always look at the positive side of situations and try to diffuse any negativity that occurs within our shop. Sometimes this can be extremely difficult when trying to deal with the day-to-day running of the shop as well.
Savers have an annual award called the ‘Christmas Cracker’ where every store in the company is able to win some money for a night out, depending on store standards. You have the first stage, involving every store, which then leads to a winner for the area which you’re in. This is awarded by the Area Manager. Wood Green store won this and were put through to the regional finals, meaning a visit from our Area and Regional Manager. First they looked at the presentation of the store, then stock replenishment and overall team morale. As a team, we became best in the South Region, therefore put through to the finals. This involved the top Managers coming to view the store, including Savers Managing Director. They spoke to all the team members within the store and asked questions about the running of the shop. From this visit, we then won the Christmas Cracker for the whole company! Out of over 400 shops, Wood Green Savers were Number 1!
As a store, we were over the moon to be recognised for the continuous hard work we put in, day in and day out. We won a total of £1500 for the colleagues. From the Sales Assistants, the Supervisors, Assistant Manager, Deputy Manager to Myself, everyone has put in so much work to keep store standards high. Being recognised by the Managing Director and various other Managers throughout the company, was an amazing achievement for all of us in the shop and we were overwhelmed with the outcome.
